It is definitely possible as they have rows of boxes in Fintas post office, so I am assuming it is the same everywhere. Unfortunately I don't have any personal experience with it so I am not sure if there are any restrictions imposed for getting one. Just go to the post office and ask.
there is this facility in Kuwait, you should go to your governerate post office and request for it,you will have to pay annual fees and they will give you a box.
I work right next to the post office in Salmiya. But I'm out of town now. When I come back next week inshaAllah I will ask them about the matter and convey to you the details if needed by then.
There are two that im familiar with, one in Kifan in the basement of the tower of transportation and the other one in Farwaniya. They usually handle the packages from external shipping to Kuwait.

its the same in Kuwait; go to the big communications buildings in the morning hours, u give them your civil ID, pay a fee, they gve u a number and a key.

simple :)

just look for the closest giant thin grey tower with a multitude of satellites atop it, thats the building u have to go to.
thanks for all
your welcome
I thought it takes a couple of years to actually get a p.o. box, my sister used to have one many years ago. I do know that people go through your mail and take stuff they want so it's not a safe way to get mail. Magazines have gone missing as well as boxes so if you do end up getting a p.o. box be forewarned of the dangers.

You have to go to any post office and u will get one, it cost 10 KD a year if I am correct, but u need to have a civil ID card
actually what Ace said is correct; commercial institutions get mail thru the snail system as well; it is also as tedious as Kuwait411 said - I remember I had done it once long ago to buy comics online, and one such comic was out of its sealed plastic cover; the customs peeps must have found it amusing to flip thru - out of 12 issues we only received like 8 or 9, so a few were lost in transit.

safest bet is to pay the extra cash for DHL to have it delivered straight to your doorstep.
They must have really enjoyed those missing copies and decided to keep them.

LOOL,i was going to say the same thing
Does anyone even work in the post office anymore?
they are barely seen open.before i thought the post offices are closed for good.
what about this question: lets say u want to SEND mail, do they even use those post boxes in the streets? the last few ive seen were full of trash and dont look like theyve been opened in YEARS.

forget snail mail, pay the extra few quid and use courier or DHL.

PS Kuwait411 - one of the comics i got i remember, the cover had the picture of two characters kissing (Wolverine and Jean Grey for all you X-Men fans out there), it was opened and deemed "ok".

guessing the others were not
the post box i have seen was full of dusty mails, and later sealed with a cloth.it was tempting to break it open.

lol,the customes guy must have got excited seeing the cover.
For valuable packages I prefer sending them to any of my shop&ship addresses & let them deliver it to my doorstep, packages insured so no damage worries. Based on my experience, custom sometimes used to open seals or keep things like vitamins for too long etc. but not anymore.
i was once charged out the wazzoo for using ushopweship to receive vitamins... they even nabbed the free shirt i was supposed ot receive with my order :(
Free shopping for them!
it must be an exciting job.
i think, and im sure Kuwait411 will agree, the best way to guarantee a purchase arriving untouched is to have it shipped to a friend on an army base here in Kuwait.
Or order a shipment of snakes .... that won't be touched alright!
5 years ago an extra DSLR battery was missing from my Fedex package ... after reading your t-shirt story, it looks like they stole my battery too
Yes, @legacy I love my friends who work on the base. When they all leave I don't know what I will do :(

Wow... I didn't realize getting mail in Kuwait was so difficult!
technically Tina its not difficult; its just expensive :P stick to the paid couriers, who deliver to your doorstep, and then it shouldnt be such a problem.
no its easy it cost just 5 kd every year
and that is exactly how long it will take for your mail to arrive with snail-mail :P

stick to couriers, fast, reliable - you get what you pay for.
