International Driving Permit

shajandotcom
I have a valid Driving license in Bahrain. My Indian Driving license is expired and hence I would like to convert my Bahrain driving license to IDP, as I can drive cars in India, when I go for vacation.

My question is that since the validity of IDP is one year, can I convert back it to the normal Bahrain Driving License before one year. As we are planning to migrate to Canada after 8 months, the validity of IDP expires soon after reaching Canada, i.e 4 months approx.

Kindly advise.

I think you are confused. If you hold a Bahrain Driving License you can apply for an International driving license. Bahrain only issues International Driving License for 1 Year each time.

Plus, some countries recognize IDPs from foreign visitors only for a few weeks – usually, only for as long as their tourist visas are valid. So check the country where you are going about the applicability of IDP.

Your Bahrain License will be valid until expiry whether you have applied for IDP or not.

Your IDP from Bahrain is given on the basis of a valid Bahrain driving license.  Period.  If your Bahrain license no longer remains valid, no IDP will be given.  So simply, there is no conversion as such.  I think you will understand this once you get an IDP - apply online on bahrain.bh.  It is a booklet, not a card.

In most countries, you cannot drive on an IDP once you get legal status to remain i.e. residence/work visa etc.
