Applying for Spain's Digital Nomad Visa? Read this before you start

SpanishLawyer

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working with digital nomads applying for Spain’s visa, and one thing I see quite often is this:

Many people focus on meeting the requirements, but overlook how important it is that everything in the application is consistent and well structured.

In practice, most delays or issues don’t come from missing documents — but from how the case is presented.

Here are a few common mistakes:

  1. Income is sufficient, but not clearly structured or traceable
  2. Mixing freelance, employment and company income without proper explanation
  3. Providing accommodation that doesn’t match the rest of the application
  4. Not considering tax implications (especially when applying from Spain)
  5. Applying without a clear strategy (Spain vs consulate, timing, etc.)

What usually makes the difference is not just eligibility, but coherence across the whole application: legal situation, income, activity and personal circumstances all need to align.

If you're planning to apply, my advice would be: take a step back and make sure your case makes sense as a whole before submitting anything.

It can save you time, stress, and unnecessary complications later on.

Happy to share insights if anyone is going through the process.

Marc
