wifi services

deegregson

Hi I'm asking advice about wifi set up in a rustic house in the hills above Valencia.  No cable connection.  Anyone used any good companies?  I'm useless with tech so really need someone to come and set it up.  Also I think the security system insisted on by the mortgage company/bank will need wifi to work.

There's a better than average chance a local mobile phone service provider sells wifi modems.  The common downsides are slower connections and data limits. Another option might be a wireless connection using an aerial.

No Landline, No Internet, No problem. Telitec’ s Wireless Internet Service is the answer. With nearly 15,000 customers and ever-increasing coverage, this is a great option if you live between Murcia and Valencia.

What about Starlink? Not cheap but it will work.

Why would anyone trust Musk with personal data?

Starlink is at the bottom of my list, just below two plastic cups and a bit of string.

I agree the guy is utterly toxic but the Starlink does work for remote places where no other services. It's the only game in town for some places.  It's also very portable.  But it's relatively costly.  Perhaps 80 EUR a month.

Mobile would an alternative if there's a service available.

I'd add that if you use Google/Facebook/X etc, they already know an awful lot about you.

If it's really something to worry about, encrypt your data or use a VPN (like Proton VPN/mail etc).

I checked Starlink availability in Spain and it's available everywhere.

Google and Microsoft,  likely most of the others, don't know a lot about you, but they do it to sell targeted advertisements.

I don't trust Musk to stick to the same.

i use Xenet in cullera. Xenet staff said that they have service only valencia. the good side, it is super cheap, about 7 euros a month and the speed is fast. the bad side, we waited for three months for the installation. o m g🤯

They scan all your e-mails, know where you are and they know what you look at.  It's profiling.  Some of it is useful. I have permanent location sharing via Google Maps switched on for Mrs F and my  kids. One daughter does not share but that's her choice.

As I've said before, Mrs Fluffy insert the word "dinosaur" into our conversations to see if the phone is listening in or if there's scanning of e-mails.

So far we've not been offered dinosaurs but maybe that's because no-one is offering them or because I extensively block advertising across my devices and I just don't see them.  I might get offered Jurassic Park BS as I think there's a new film around.  It's years since I saw those movies.
