USA retiree looking for a new homeland

Mcswitz50

Good day, all. I am a retired United States schoolteacher looking to leave America for a while. My grandfather was a Scot my grandmother was an American. My mother was raised in Scotland so I have been there a few times and it is home.  I am financially self-sufficient and just starting to explore my move next August to either Scotland, Canada, or Ireland. I have two cousins still in Scotland, so I’m wondering if sponsorship is a possibility as it is in the US. I’m not sure even where to begin so I’m hoping to get that sort of help here. Thank you and hope to meet you all someday.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Unfortunately, the UK does not operate any kind of retirement visa; as it currently stands, as a US citizen, the longest you could stay is 6 months in any 12-month period.  You can read all about it on the UK Gov website; this link will take you straight to it.

Perhaps consider Ireland, their Government website has a section about it; this link will take you straight to it.

I hope this helps.

Yes it helps quite a lot.  Thank you.  I’ve got until August to work things out.  I appreciate your help.
