Exploring the expat community

sepia2567

Hi,
I am planning a trip to Lisbon, etc. Sept 22-Oct.2nd to explore the possibilities of relocating. I am about to retire in the next couple of months. I would love some guidance on where I should go and any thoughts you have that I need to consider. I have sort of  been studying Portugal from afar but nothing like being there. Where are the expat communities? As a single woman, what areas should I explore?
Thanks, Candice

Hi Candice,

I think a major task for you will be finding out why you want to move to Portugal instead of staying where you are or going somewhere else. Before moving to Portugal we wrote up all the things that are important for us and then we analysed a number of different destinations with based on holidays and what is available on the internet.

From my point of view I would say that for a single the best place to move is Lisbon and maybe Cascais/Estoril. There is a good expat community there and also lots of activities are organized by Internations.org or the International Women's group. Plus the LIS Airport is really good for travelling.
