As JohnnyPT writes, MGEN is a good solution if you want a health insurance that covers you in Portugal. However, If you would want to choose where you want to receive treatment (if required) then only an international insurance like (!) BUPA will work. I guess it all depends upon your requirements and how deep your pockets are. I know people that don't have health insurance, but simply pay their treatment out of pocket.

We are using CUF as well, because they have a hospital in our nearest town and many in Lisbon. However, CUF does not provide health insurance. They only provide a health plan. I assume JohnnyPT can describe the difference much better than I can.
