Social Security AIMA requirement

Filed an application for social security number, lost the info on their website and wondering how long it takes to get a response. I need to follow up to see f the registered letter was already sent. Thanks in advance for all the well informed responses typical of this website.

Once you have submitted your application, you will receive a registered letter at the address you provided on the form, informing you that you can collect your NISS from the Social Security Office.

It frequently takes from 2 weeks to a month.

How to Follow Up Without the Online Info:

  1. 1. By Phone

You can call the Linha Segurança Social. The agents have direct access to the backend system and can look up your application using your full name, passport/ID number, and Tax Number (NIF).

Phone numbers: Dial 210 545 400 or 300 512 512.

  1. 2. In Person

You can walk into any Serviço de Atendimento da Segurança Social or a Loja do Cidadão.

Bring your physical Passport/ID and your NIF document.

Inform the clerk at the desk that you submitted an online request but lost the reference data, and you need a verificação (status check). If it has already been approved in the system, they can often print the NISS document.

  1. 3. Check Your Email Junk/Spam Folders

Because the notification is automated, the approval email from seg-social.pt very frequently lands in Spam or Junk folders. Search your inbox for "NISS" or "Segurança Social".
