BSN in Amsterdam and pregnancy

Maria S88

Hi there.

I'm currently in Amsterdam and trying to get the Citizen Number. The queue is huge and the earliest date is the 5th of October. Perhaps, I'm pregnant and need to visit a local midwife before October.

Gementee and IN Amsterdam cannot help and make BSN earlier. So, the question is how to get the local insurance without BSN? Is it possible?

P.S. Ok, so I spent hours waiting on a phone trying to get the municipality or IN Amsterdam and I finally got other dates from IN Amsterdam (at least August). But I highly recommend to someone like me to check all registrations before arriving. Because August-September is the worst time to move to Amsterdam, because of students.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Waiting times of 5 to 6 weeks were quite common before the issues caused by Covid, so I'm not surprised to hear this.  Try giving Zorgwijzer (link) a call - they have a help phone number at the top of that page.

Hope that helps.
