Pre-existing health condition and new health insurance

We are looking at moving to the Netherlands and will need an insurance that allows pre-existing conditions. My husband may work as self-employed (engineer) or he may choose to work as a permanent employee.
1. Is there an agent/broker that can work with us?
2. Do all insurance companies have to provide for pre-existing?

Hi Nadine and welcome to the Forum.

I love easy questions:

Health Insurance is compulsory in the Netherlands; you have no choice and have to make arrangements within 4 months of arriving. There is no point in putting it off to try and save a few months contributions, you will be back-charged to your date of arrival.

As in all healthcare plans, you get what you pay for and if you can put up with the restrictions, you can get a pretty good deal. On top of the monthly insurance premium, you are also personally responsible for the first 385 euro of your annual costs; after that, you still pay, but your Insurance will start to refund you the costs. Some companies will offer their employees discounted rates with specific healthcare insurance providers.
