Taboo subject

Assisted suicide.

Being 78 and although fit and healthy the thought of spending my remaining years helpless feels me with dread. I've read that assisted suicide is legal in Holland but can't seem to find much in the way of details rules regulations, clinics  etc.

Any information would be most appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

As you have already learnt, Euthanasia is legal in the Netherlands.  The Dutch Government have issued a general statement on the subject on their website; this link will take you to it, followed up by a further webpage that may answer your specific question (link).  All this information came from a general Google search.

I have to add that this process is only allowed for residents of the Netherlands, as a non-national, you would need a travel visa and I haven't yet seen one being issued for Euthanasia.  It can only be authorised by your Dutch GP in agreement with the Dutch medical authorities.

The documents I've linked to do provide contact information for the Dutch Government where you can ask further questions, but I don't think I can provide any more information.

I wish you a long and healthy life.

I hope this helps.
