Info search: working in the UK or Eire when you're 16

Hiya!

My request isn't about me, I'm here to collect some useful info for one of my pupils. Here's the story:

My pupil is 16 and she'd really want to find a job for next summer. She doesn't want to work au pair (but she will if it's her only choice, which proves her strong determination...), but she's motived for pretty much ANY job as long as she can stay in Britain or Ireland for a while...

Problem is: she's 16, and I can't find anything useful to give her concrete answers. It's starting to feel quite frustrating not being able to give proper reply to her request...

So, my first question is: can a 16-yr old girl work in Britain or Eire? I'm quite sure she can, legally speaking, but I'd rather make sure this is right before talking to her and her family... So if anyone among you guys could redirect me to a proper web page, that would be sound...

2nd question is: is there any website or association that specialises in finding jobs for young workers from abroad? Cuz it looks like the main obstacle to her request is that I can't find any job ad for under-18s...

3rd (and hopefully - for now) last question: in case we found something, does anything exist to help youngsters under 18 (and from abroad) find accomodation while they work in Britain or Eire?

I realise my post is outrageously long, but if you've been brave enough to read through the whole message, I hope you can help me find something...

Job market is tough at the moment for highly qualified, school leavers, graduates, let alone kids her age wanting to do holiday jobs. Its just not an option anymore, unless your dad owns macdonalds or some fancy smancy places that can take you in for a few bob. What about accomodation, food, transport? unless she has enough funds to get her here then she can have a look around and see for herself. That might be the only way to get the message across.

Thanks for replying, Sanbo! I don't think she or her folks realise what the situation up there actually is... but they want answers, so thanks for giving me more arguments.
