Citizenship for a spouse?

wittingtoned1i

There's a three-year residency requirement for the spouse of an Irish citizen to be eligible for citizenship. But the Justice Minister can waive the requirement based on "Irish association," which means being related by "blood, affinity or adoption." I'm wondering whether any members here have experience in applying for, or obtaining, such a waiver? I am an American having dual citizenship with Ireland, and my wife and I are considering relocation to Ireland in the near future. Thanks for any info.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

The Irish Government have a very useful website that provides a wealth of information on all types of things; it's called Citizens Information, and it has a "Returning to Ireland" section; this link will take you straight to it.  They also have a social media presence with contact information on Facebook; this link will take you straight to that.

I hope this helps.
