Hello, this is largely a space where I'd just like to present the skeleton of the idea plus what I know through research so far, and accept commentary and maybe some direction where to keep researching. I have some personal problems where I may not be remembering the specifics, facts and figures, instead the "general idea" and I know that's not good enough to eventually pull the trigger.
I understand that because I don't work for a company that would transfer me (self-employed) I would be required to make the equivalent of $59k or more a year independently, as well as have savings equal or greater to a large emergency expense (the example I've found is roughly the amount to buy a place to live). Until full citizenship I would also be required to have my own health insurance, and it's 5 years of residence on long-stay visa permissions before I can apply for citizenship.
I also have a mixed dog that I would be bringing with me. I have yet to get a DNA test but most people recognize her as a staffy mix, though I've met several other dogs that look almost precisely like her that the owners swear up and down are different breed mixes than what I get suggested. I've reached out to a different website for information as the research on the restricted vs. banned categorization is a little confusing to me on that specific breed/mix. If this breed is indeed part of her and it's on the restricted, rather than outright banned, do the same laws of training, management, etc, apply to me were I to bring her? She would have no problem adhering, but if she's outright banned that's another story...
If I'm making enough to fully support myself in the first place it seems a reasonable choice to purchase a derelict property with some space and and use the renovation mortgage to make it a safe space to live. I'm not terribly social, so having a small house in the middle of a green space would be fine, also considering the nature of my work. it also seems like buying a space like that would be easier to do in central or western Ireland both for price and having a certain amount of space itself. Edited to include: I'm not against meeting neighbors and going into cities and such, I think the best way to describe what I mean without getting too deep into it is that I'm somewhat Introverted With Complications.
Those are the basics, but then there might eventually be figuring out self employment registration and taxes and such, and how that interacts with visas and residence categories. So depending on how things go with other plans, I may be back on with another topic that's more specific. I of course have, and will reach out more specifically to Irish informational sources but I stumbled on this website and thought it would be nice to have some less formal input, at least to raise things I might not be thinking of, or be pointed toward confirmation/denial of some things I've asked about.
I'm an adult (30+) american author and artist with a necessity to continue working for myself, as well as to keep a companion animal (the dog referenced above is my service animal, which I know is another level of complexity almost entirely). The work I do could easily meet the independent income requirement, after major shifts in converting work to actually getting paid. So I don't really strictly fit the "skilled worker" requirement in the traditional sense, so I figured my best bet would be having that income through shipping and/or online work and then incidentally living in Ireland (I'm also looking at how shipping requirements and costs differ...)
edit: I have also just realized the combination of me not being terribly social, and my name on this forum, could easily give people some...interesting ideas heh. I specialize in traditional arts and I mean "I want space" more in terms of where I can chop wood and garden.
