Does anyone know the best interest rates available from banks in Hungary. I may buy an apartment in Budapest to let but it would be a lot simpler to put the money into a savings account.

The return on apartments will probably be higher than a bank account, when accounting for inflation. On the other hand, an apartment is not a liquid asset, easily accessible. If you look on the real estate sites, you'll see lots of apartments to rent. Pick carefully otherwise it could be empty for a long time.
