Can I apply for a Schengen Visa while Having a pending National Visa.

d_riddler

I have applied for a Nationa visa that has been approved but pending approval due to Covid. I'd like t know if I can apply for a family visit Schengen visa while the national visa is yet to be issued. I don't want anything to affect the National visa hence my worry.

At the moment you would not get a Schengen tourist visa coming from Nigeria anyway due to Covid rules.

Yes, that's right, however, I am currently in South Africa and I am able to apply for a family visit Schengen visa.

One cannot come on a tourist visa from Nigeria or South Africa at this time according to the German Government website for external affairs; so the consulate will not issue one.

I am giving links below that detail the covid regulations and exceptions. A family reunion visa might be different. But even if one would theoretically be allowed to get such a visa, it does NOT mean that another type of visa will be issued. You are trying to rationalize something which sounds logical but the rules simply say otherwise.

I have no desire to argue one’s assumptions. I am providing the official information and you can argue with the German government if you want.

Both countries have a landing ban in Europe.

An update. I was advised by the embassy not to apply for a Schengen visa while waiting for a national visa. I got my national visa two weeks afterward and I am in Germany now.

Thank you, guys.
