The birth certificate is not a requirement for the French long-stay visitor visa. However, you will need this document to apply for French healthcare once you're in France, and it is usually requested with an apostille and a certified French sworn translation. I'd recommend arranging this before you leave the US. As Aurelio said above, and I'd like to add that the birth certificate needs to be under a year old when you make your application to CPAM (French healthcare), which you can do after 3 months regular and stable residency. So don't get your existing one apostilled if it isn't under a year old. I'll drop you a message to explain in more detail... All the best, Nicole

@realfitpug4life - I have always provided certified translated copies of my birth and marriage certificates, and did not obtain new/updated copies. They have always been accepted by my Prefecture (Haute-Garonne) for both titre de séjour renewals and inquiries concerning my carte vitale.

Is Gemini a legitimate source? I don't think you need birth certificate for the initial long-term visa application.
