Long Stay Visa Document Question

Hi.  Google Gemini says that I should "Request fresh certified copies of your birth certificate and marriage/divorce certificates (if applicable) from your state's vital statistics office..." as part of preliminary document preparation for the long stay visitor visa.  I can't find this requirement on any website.  Do I need to get additional copies if I have originals?
