Recommendations for property lawyer

FirstBerg

Hi the expat mind.

I live with my wife near Aarhus and when her father died, we bought the house from the estate. However although the money was from the sale of our UK property (jointly owned), the deed of the DK house is in her name only (advised by family lawyer).

We would now like both our names on the deed, as problems could arise if not and currently my wife is paying all the tax. Does any one know a good property lawyer we could ask?

Tak in advance

Hi Noel,

First of all, I know no lawyer at all.

I cannot help thinking that you should return to the family lawyer, ask him why he advised you that way and ask him to tell you about the pros and cons.

Even if only one spouse is listed on the deed, the community of property (joint property) generally ensures the other spouse's financial position in the event of separation, divorce, or death. However, to transfer part of the ownership to the English spouse via a spousal deed, the personal requirements for acquiring real estate in Denmark must be met.

It'll be a good idea to keep records (bank statements, transfer confirmations) showing all your contributions.
