What is BS?
Facts from the European statititics? - @SimCityAT

No - the BS in question relates to things that are indeed facts but presented in a way which misleads the average reader, apparently successfully. Can you not see the BS in that report? ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Just to spell it out:

Bulgaria has always fluctuated between #1 and #5 cheapest in EU pump prices; it's currently #4. The "percentage rise" in the Novinite report is correct but just applying simple arithmetic principles reveals that the conclusion it's pushing is BS.ย  Just look at this example:

Fuel prices are based on the cost of crude oil; when the base price of this raw material rises, the price to the consumer also rises. In high-tax countries like the Netherlands or Denmark (where fuel is โ‚ฌ2.30โ€“โ‚ฌ2.45/L), a โ‚ฌ0.30 increase, for example, represents an 11โ€“13% rise.

In Bulgaria (starting from a lower baseline of ~โ‚ฌ1.20โ€“โ‚ฌ1.40/litre), that same 30ยข increase would represent a 20โ€“25% spike. But it doesn't mean that the price has gone up twice as much in Bulgaria, it's still only โ‚ฌ0.30 more than it was. Novinite is just indulging in a bit of sensationalism...or maybe its journos are simply innumerate.

We're not being ripped off, we're just experiencing the same increase in crude oil prices that everyone else is and we're still paying quite a bit less than most other EU members, so the tin-foil hats can go back into storage.... ๐Ÿ˜

@SimCityAT They copied verbatim this EU report: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/produ โ€ฆ 20260821-1

It is a significant rise in percentage terms. But what they left out, as @JimJ says, is that Bulgaria is still one of the lowest cost countries for oil derived fuels in the EU. Here's the latest price report from last week: https://energy.ec.europa.eu/data-and-an โ€ฆ ulletin_en
