Lyubimets / Svilengrad

Kit2001

Hi,

We now have a small car that we keep at our place near Ivaylovgrad - however our initial plan to find parking in Sofia is turning out to be more troublesome and expensive than anticipated, so this year we caught the train from Sofia to our nearest mainline station Lyubimets.  it was surprisingly easy and straightforward.

The only snag is that the single bus from Lyubimets to Ivaylovgrad leaves after our train from Sofia arrives, meaning that we currently have to do an overnight in Lyubimets - which is OK, but delays our arrival by a whole day.

The other downside is that the bus journey is slow and winding over the mountain (not good for travel sickness prone people like me  🤢)

We are now thinking about either buying a small plot/garage/lockable area, or finding someone who would be happy to have our beat up old Berlingo parked on their land.

We are back out again in May, so will be looking around for parking.  The train also goes to Svilengrad (the next stop) which, now the border with Greece is open is actually an easier option for driving (we re-enter Bulgaria on the Slaveevo crossing - so may look at options there as well.

I'm wondering if anyone has any advise or contacts in either of those areas.  We don't have the money for any big purchases, as most of it is going into our house, so affordable options only please.

Have you looked at Imot or Alo (.BG). Both have the ability to search for garages or parking spots.

You might be able to find a garage in a smaller town on the railway line for around 5-6k euros.

I also looked out of interest, and there was even a decent parking spot (just a private spot, not a garage) in Plovdiv for around 9k that looked like it was a 20 or so minutes walk to the train station.

Just avoid Sofia unless your willing to pay for it.

Utilise connections you may have through your house near Ivaylovgrad. Locals are often eager to help, even suggesting parking on private family land. Ask around, ask the mayor if he knows of anyone who would be willing to help?

Not sure of your budget..but looking on Alo there is currently a parking space in Sofia in Druzhba 1 currently for 12k euro.... (Nearest Metro is 2 stops from airport). Also possibly a 30-40 ish min walk.
