Today, on the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, we say: every victim is one too many.

Given the way that some people drive, and the condition they're often in when they get behind the wheel, I'd venture to say that their demise is of benefit to the rest of us. If they cause injury or death to innocent parties that's certainly tragic but those who care nothing for others' safety are absolutely no loss in my book...

Sadly, it does support the unsafe driving comments often raised here -- only Romania has a higher road death rate. For comparison, the UK rate is 25.

Put up speed cameras everywhere and follow through on fines etc. The only way to change attitudes over next 10 years or so.

It's not so simple to change attitudes here: a while back, one government minister's car was caught speeding on the Sofia Ring Road by a traffic camera; the next day they were all switched off....😁

Ho Chi Minh City says, hold my beer.

HCMC (a.k.a. Saigon), just that one single city here in Vietnam, in 2023 saw a dramatic reduction in road fatalities.

Deaths from road accidents were down to just 55.

That's 55... per month. In one city.
