Large crack running

Down the side of our outside stairs in a typical Bulgarian village house. The tiles on the steps have been damaged as well. How do I get it repaired and the whole steps retired? Water damage in the past I think

Are you quite sure it isn't caused by settlement/subsidence? Just patching and re-tiling it might just make for more work in the future..

Kath, if your region has had an unusually dry summer like ours, it's more likely to be that the ground has shunk and so the stairs have settled a bit causing cracking, rather than water damage.


There are two approaches to this -- patch it up and see how it goes, or more extensive underpinning work to make sure it doesn't happen again. How wide is the crack?
