Lost my job 1 week before L card application can I still apply?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently on an A card (unlimited) and was planning to apply for an L card, but I lost my job one week before submitting the application.

Can I still apply, or will this affect my eligibility? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Thanks!

The requirement for the L card application is to have stable, regular and sufficient income. It is better that you find new work first before you apply.

Does unemployment benefits count as stable and sufficient income for the L card application, or does it specifically need to be employment income?

It doesnt have to be specifically from an employment income. It can be an income from any sources, for as long as it is stable, regular and sufficient. It is your burden to prove that your other sources of income meets the requirements. That is why employment income is easier as a proof.

For the unemployment, and this is where I am not really sure but I can cross reference to the Family Reunification experience I had.

Normally unemployment benefit is not considered because it is not stable. Even if it is regular, it is not stable and sufficient over time because the amount decreases.

Unless you can show proof that you are searching for a job, but then that it your burden of proof also.

@brla15 In this situation, what would you recommend doing? Should I still apply with chômage and proof of job search?  I have been working for 4 years straight
