Opening a free, online account in Belgium

heatherll

Hi everyone,

I will soon be moving to Belgium with my partner, and as part of our preparation, we are both hoping to open a bank account before we get there. I have read online that there are a few different banks that offer free online accounts, and I am considering either CBC or Keytrade Bank. Has anyone had any experience with these banks and/or does anyone have any advice?

Thank you in advance for your responses!

Hello

I'm actually in the CBC bank and had experience with several different banks in Belgium in the last +/- 20 years (ING, Fortis & CBC).
It's a nice bank that always respond to my need compare to the 2 other one, so I've absolutely no reason to change anytime soon.
Especially knowing that they don't spam me or bother me. Exactly what I want.

And as far as I've seen with friends & colleague, CBC mobile app is by far the best one on the Belgian market. Pretty useful if you travel often and want to manage your bank account or credit card without the need of a laptop.

By the way, you can open your bank account in 5-10 minutes once you arrive in Belgium through the web or an agency, and you'll get your bank card +/- 5 days later.
It's a bit easier to do it once you know where you'll settle as they'll immediately send your bank card@home (or keep it in an agency).

Hello,

Thank you so much for your reply!

I'm glad to hear such a positive experience of CBC, I'll set up an account with them most likely then, but from what you've said it seems best to wait until I arrive!

Thanks again
