Belgium Nationality 2026

@callonafo

The narration of accounts is bizarre. It just doesnt add up.

I think your friend's wife is currently in niveau 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 for reading and writing, respectively, (kindly correct if false) and that is why CVO Antwerp said she needs to attend 5 more classes (her classes probably runs till June 2026) before she can take the NT2 examination. The certificate of the NT2 examination will be her proof of language.

In any case, deelcertificaat equal to or higher than A2 in mondeling and schrijftelijk can be used as proof of language proficiency.

@brla15

She submitted a total of 6 certificates from CVO Antwerpen, yet she was still asked to take an online language test before her nationality application could be accepted.

What makes this confusing is that her husband submitted the same type of certificates during his own application and did not face this issue. She also scored above 80% in each programme.

These are the certificates she submitted:

• Deelcertificaat NT2 Breakthrough publiek (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 1)

• Deelcertificaat NT2 Breakthrough persoonlijk (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 1)

• Deelcertificaat NT2 Waystage schriftelijk (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 1)

• Deelcertificaat NT2 Waystage mondeling (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 1)

• Deelcertificaat NT2 Threshold 1 mondeling publiek (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 2)

• Deelcertificaat NT2 Threshold 2 mondeling publiek (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 2)

Therefore, I do not know if anyone is facing the same issue similar with Antwerp or Deurne commune regarding nationality applications and language proof?

@callonafo

Thanks for more information. I think I can follow the logic of the ambtenaar. Your friend's wife has niveau 1.2 (A2) in schrijftelijk. Of course the mondeling part has higher level. Both mondeling and schrijftelijk should meet the A2 level.

Since this is the case, the proof of language should be the NT2 test which is, since 2023, taken after niveau 1.2 is done. Deelcertificaat is not accepted for niveau 1.1 and 1.2. Well that is the only logic I can think of.

Whether this is right or wrong is beyond my knowledge at this point.

Dear all,

I’m planning to apply for Belgian citizenship through the 5-year work/integration route and wanted opinions on my situation.

I currently hold an L card and live in Brussels

My timeline:

1. Employer A: 12/07/2021 → 28/08/2022

During this contract, mycareer.be shows 9 days under “other absence” (unpaid leave type).

New employer started on 01/09/2022

So there is a 3-working-day gap: 29, 30, 31 August 2022.

This transition happened during a single permit/employer change process.

I have immigration emails/documents showing the new single permit approval and employer transition process was already ongoing before the previous contract ended.

Then continuous employment after that:

Employer C: 01/09/2022 → 20/07/2024

Employer D: 23/07/2024 → 20/12/2024

Gap here was only weekend days.

Employer E: 23/12/2024 → present

Additional info:

1. Around 1700 worked days total

2. A2 French certificate

3. No long unemployment periods

4. No CPAS/social assistance

5. Legal residence uninterrupted

6. I don't have social integration however I have registered myself in waiting list at bapa .

My main concern:

1 . Could the 3 weekday gap in Aug 2022 or the 2. 9 unpaid leave days affect the “5 years uninterrupted work” interpretation for Belgian citizenship?

Would appreciate experiences from people who applied in similar situations.

@Vs2802

Hello

I believe that uninterrupted work is not the key factor in your case. The correct requirement is 5 years of uninterrupted residence, not uninterrupted employment.

For someone who has been living in Belgium and has  worked  uninterruptly for 5 years, there is no need to provide language or social integration certificates.

All the best,

Mai

Congratulations! I was wondering if Antwerp and Brussels applications are evaluated by different public prosecutors? I assume, no?  I applied in Brussels in February, but I haven't heard anything yet, and I was just curious.
