Belgian Spouse Visa, income Requirement & New Job (Only 1 Payslip)

Maira Ahmad

Hello everyone,
I hope you are all doing well. I need some advice regarding the Belgian family reunification (spouse visa) process.
My husband is a Belgian national, and he recently started a new job in Belgium. He has a permanent contract, but since he started in the middle of the month, he only has one payslip, and it is lower than the monthly net requirement (because it was not a full month of work).
We are planning to apply for my spouse visa soon, but we are worried about the income requirement. I have a few questions and would really appreciate guidance from anyone who has experience:
1. Has anyone here applied with only one payslip?
2. If the first payslip was lower because the job started mid-month, was it still accepted?
3. Does DVZ accept a permanent contract + employer letter as proof of stable income if full 3 payslips are not available yet?
4. Were you asked later to submit additional payslips?
5. Any examples of successful cases with a new job would help a lot.
We want to understand whether we should apply now or wait until at least 2–3 payslips are available.
Thank you so much in advance to anyone who can share their experience or advice. It will really help us decide the right way to proceed. 🙏

I would advise to wait based on my personal experience. We applied for residency for my wife based on my permanent contract when I first started my job here. Municipality told us the contract itself is enough but it was not, and we learned it the hard way.

Maybe the letter and the existing payslip helps but I would recommend to wait at least 1 more month to have a full payslip. The process can take up-to 9 months and you might regret not having waited an extra month if it is a rejection after 9 months.
