Especially irritating for me is getting a full screen popup when I select "quote" using my android phone.

I've started loading this site on my laptop in my Chrome browser, and I don't get the popups there.

So are android smartphone users being punished?

Stupid question, but that's how it feels to me (and we all know how important it is to consider EVERYONE's feelings these days)

Seriously though, ALL websites succeed or fail largely due to the CONTENT they provide.

A huge part of the searchable content on this website is provided free by us, the members of The Forum.

If you make it difficult for users to provide content...

I've confirmed on my android phone using Chrome browser:

IT'S A JAVA PROBLEM/HACK

I turned off Java for this site specifically.

Now all of the popups are gone.

However, the functionality of this site that was being EXPLOITED to create the popups no longer works:

1. I can't use the quote function.

2. I can't click the ♡ to like a post. Doing so redirects me to the quick reply interface at the bottom of the screen.

3. I cannot reply to a private message. However I can go to a profile and send a new message.

4. When viewing the list of forum articles, I can click on a main topic, but I can no longer click on the recent poster name to see that particular article.

I'm sure there are other things I cannot do, but I'm certain that it's Java that's being exploited for the purposes of these ad pop ups.

Are we really going to lay that at the feet of Google?

Sounds like a third-party hack to me.

The only other possibility is that this website is doing it.

I truly hope that's not the case.

I am assured it is not.

There has had troubles with Google in the past with there adverts and in the end, it was sorted out.

I can't automatically quote you Fred, and I'm too lazy to write out the script manually 😁

I'm sure you're right and that this site is not directly causing the problem.

My best guess is that whatever 3rd-party service you are using to run the ads has written the "hack".

I think going to Google with his problem is a wild goose chase.

You might have to change your hosting company.

I've sent a message to the Admin/Tech team to come back to us all to give us an update, it is a bit annoying I must admit, but it doesn't happen on a PC.

Another observation:

I decided to turn JavaScript back on for this site, because I couldn't use functions such as quoting.

When I refreshed the screen I was forced to log back in.

When I logged in, the advertising "shell" reappeared (see my previous screen shots).
