Clocks go backward tonight (honest)

Jaitch

Tonight, Saturday, the Earth’s master clocks will not jump from Saturday June 30 2012 23:59:59 GMT to 00:00:00. They will tick over to 23:59:60, before making the jump to Sunday and 00:00:00. The Service International De La Rotation Terrestre Et Des Systemes De Reference has given us all a leap second.

So all those with Atomic Clocks be warned.

for those with less exotic time pieces, relax, the error in yours will compensate automatically.

ADDENDUM:
Several popular web sites went wobbly at the time as their Operating Systems couldn't handle the change. Still haven't learned from 1999/2000.

Machines running the Amadeus Altea system were brought down soon after an extra second was added to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) at midnight on Saturday, 30 June. Staff at Quantas and Virgin Australia had to check in passengers manually, disrupting flight plans. Amadeus claims it is the world’s second largest processor of online bookings while it is reported to handle 25 per cent of the world’s 84,000 daily flights.

Amadeus claims 135 airlines have implemented its Altea reservation system, more than 100 have purchased Altea inventory and 60 use Altea departure control.

Servers run by Mozilla, StumbleUpon, Yelp, FourSquare, Reddit and LinkedIn were also reported to have been hit by the same bug.

A little more serious than you might think.
