My little trip report going to Vietnam

Guestposter655

Hi all. I left Siem Reap Cambodia on the direct Cambodia Angkor Airlines flight to Ho Chi Minh City at 840pm on 26 December. The flight is direct to Saigon and took about 45 minutes. Very nice flight. I have to admit to yelling  my appreciation returning after two years when I landed and the flight security crew just smiled. I had got the evisa online some months before and I printed two copies thanks to my landlady in Siem Reap. Customs at the airport was about like usual. Long lines, slow passport stamping. Something should be done about the whole arrival process because the customs and immigration people are not a happy group.

I am only spending three days in Saigon and then going on to Hanoi for my last few weeks. I have a flight out Friday in the afternoon on VietJet. I'll be spending the Tet holidays with my extended Vietnamese family or families. Coffee and beer at west lake, Bia hoi more than once, the small cafes dotting the lake. Cannot wait. One particular cafe I am very excited about returning to. Mystic Cafe along the lake has always been a favored spot of mine and my friends but also SunKats burgers in Tay Ho district.

Just wanted to thank everyone on the forum that has posted information about the evisa process, requirements to enter, and any cautionary notes. I am spending 30 days only and not doing visa runs or returning although some Vietnamese friends want me to come back in April. I think in April will do the 30 day evisa again and visit Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue and end in Hanoi to see a friend going through university there.

I got to see her tonight for burgers and beers at a nice place. It had been two years since I had seen her. So very nice getting back. I do wish I could get the 90 day visa and I would have been able to be here longer but I appreciate the 30 days and just being back in Vietnam.

Take care all. I will really enjoy getting to Hanoi next!

I know a few people that have been doing monthly visa runs for almost a year now. I just don't know how they can deal with the hassle for so long. I know most of them will tell you it's just "an easy trip to the border" but I don't think it's fun to have to ask for approval every month, there's the psychological effect of not really belonging here.

Also, with the relatively little free time I have, I'd rather spend the few hours it takes in travel to visit some dear friends instead of border agents 1f923.svg
