If you are a second class citizen, I think you are one of 99% of such people in the USA.

If you think declaring yourself to be a Communist will get ypou anywhere, forget it.

True Communists are dying off,there's a few in Ha Noi but the rest of VietNam is a thriving capitalist world.

At least you have InterNet to entertain you, and keep your mind active.

P.S. It's always smart to avoid politics as a visitor to a country, it can cause attention you might not want.

Thanks, maybe I need to just find away to be allowed to stay  if I go. For me my personal horror is to much to stand   in the USA It is a long story.

Why don't you consider Thailand or Malaysia? They have specific visa program for retirees which requires that you provide proof that you can sustain yourself without need of earning income in those countries. 30KUSD of deposit or annual income in Thailand.

There is none of such programs in Vietnam.

There are tons of retirees living in those countries in places like Pattaya. Cost of living is pretty the same as VN (or even lower if you are willing to live in the boondocks). You'll be hard pressed to find any American retirees in VN (I am not counting the old Viet Kieus).

You would be very surprised on the number of Viet Nam vets that have retired to Viet Nam.  I'm planning on retiring to Nha Trang in a few years.

If you were to enter the Vietnamese Foreign Affairs Office and seek political asylum, this is what I think will happen:  they will send you through a host of red tapes, make you spend all kind of money and, when you are about to run out, they will classify you as insane or unfit and drop you off over at the US Embassy.  Vietnam is not taking refugees, Frank.

Now, if you are really bent on living here long term, there are ways for you to do it.  But, it will take a lot of planning on your part and lots of luck.  As you can see on this blog, there are quite a few retirees living here. 

Meanwhile, stop being so down on yourself and your country.  Vietnam does not want the down and out.  Heck, Vietnam doen't even want its own, let alone those from abroad.

You're actually better maintaining your US citizenship and spending a few months at a time in each country.  If you have a retirement plan or Social Security you will find it will go much further in Viet Nam.  Medical and Dental needs will be much cheaper in Viet Nam.
