Difficulty in obtaining employment for work visa

Hello everyone!

My name is Sarah, and I'm a French citizen who has been living in South Korea since 2015. Last summer, I traveled to Vietnam, and ever since, this beautiful country has been on my mind.

I sometimes find myself daydreaming about starting a new chapter in Da Nang, as it's one of the cities where I could see opportunities for someone with a trilingual profile like mine.

I'd love to connect with people living and working in Vietnam. Having gone through the stress of the visa application process in South Korea, I know how challenging it can be, and it's one of my biggest concerns as I consider making the move.

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences. How does the visa process work in Vietnam, and how difficult is it to find a job that offers visa sponsorship? And also what is the worklife in Vietnam?

Hello Sarah,

Welcome to Expat.com 😀

I have created a new thread for your post on the Vietnam forum for better visibility. The forum is quite active, so hopefully you will get some feedback from members.

In the meantime, I invite you to read our Living in Vietnam: the ultimate expat guide for some useful information on visas, employment, and everyday life.

By the way, what field do you work in? This could help members give you more relevant advice about job opportunities.

Cheers,

Cheryl

You should definitely take some time to read this > Finding a job and working in Vietnam

Whether you are looking to work in marketing or tourism, having at least some knowledge of Vietnamese will be a real advantage, as you will likely be interacting with locals. You may also have opportunities to learn from them along the way.

All the best,

Cheryl

Then it will be virtually impossible for you to gain  legal employment with a work visa sponsorship.

Especially in tourism: foreigners are explicitly forbidden from working in tourism related positions.

Hiring of foreigners in Vietnam is strictly limited to positions where the employer can certify to the government that no Vietnamese citizens can be found to perform the duties.

Otherwise, it will be impossible for an employer to obtain a legal work permit for you.

Without a legal work permit, you would be limited to a 90 day tourist E-visa or (easier) as a French citizen/passport holder you can enter Vietnam on your nation-specific 45 day Visa exemption.

In either case, it will be absolutely illegal for you to generate any income within Vietnam without the benefit of a legal work permit.

Good luck with your plans 🙏
