Importing (prescription) drugs for personal use, and..

It2VN

Could someone advise or point me in the direction of official guidance on whether some items I would like to take with me are permitted or not for importation.

I use almost nightly Delorazepam drops for sleep. Also where does ibuprofen stand?

Also, non-drug related, can one import processed food items in jars and bottles (which might be difficult to find in VN)?

Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately the forum search feature no longer makes it easy for me to share the MANY posts where these subjects have been discussed.

Simplifying:

1. Vietnam's import laws are very restrictive, especially for prescription medications and ESPECIALLY for any type of controlled medication or narcotic.

2. Unfortunately, most social media respondents will tell you they never have a problem bringing such items into Vietnam.

Please use AI (Grok AI, Google Gemini AI, etc) to get the absolute truth translated into English.

Unless, of course, you were looking for answer #2...

Thanks, OB. Will delve deeper then.

I've heard that IT will be working on improving members "Activity history" search results. I certainly hope so, as it is currently not of much help.

It2VN , you can take a look through these Google pages. Hope that helps.

I was just at Pharmacity, a pharmaceutical chain in Việt Nam, and asked about this delorazepam by showing the staff this post. She said that it's not available and that they just have melatonin.

As for the food items, what do you have in mind? These days, a lot of "western goods" can be found in supermarkets or specialty shops.

Thanks for feedback.

In the past I used various formulations of melatonin in Italy but they weren't as effective as the drops, but often better than nothing.

In terms of food- I had a half-used 20+year old bottle of homemade balsamic which I couldn't finish before leaving. I gave it to an appreciative friend. The other thing I miss is Marmite. I brought a jar with me. Whether this will be easily replaceable in SEA I have no idea😄

I think you may have a struggle to find Marmite!

No, it isn't easy to get, most of the time.

I've never had a problem bringing my meds into the country. I've never even been searched. When I've had them shipped with DHL I always have all the scrip literature packed with the drugs which are stopped and opened by customs in HCMC. A DHL customs clerk emails me, informing me that they're being held for further inspection. Playing on Viets' profound respect for elders, I respond with something like "Please release my package. I'm old and infirm and I need the medication to carry on." Generally the meds arrive in the next day or two.
