See You Later, Colin

Colin (now listed as "Guest2023") has left the forum.

I miss him already.

Agreed.  However, I don't think that just stopping posting turns you into a :Guest Poster:.  I have seen those who do not post for a few years come back even if it is for a single post or two.  There are also some who I am pretty sure are deceased, whose posts still display the same name and avatar.  I believe you have to do something to enrage one of the Lords of Mauritius.  Either that or send them a message that says "I quit." Can we find out more or will that break some kind of code of silence?

I'm pretty sure if you are simply banned, your profile stays intact.

I think when it shows the "guest" moniker, the account has actually been deleted, and I'm almost certain that is based on user request.

Andy might know for sure

You also have the option of opening the ...

drop menu beneath your own avatar/account settings/delete my account. (please don't)

Deleting your account removes your avatar from your posts-history, and assigns you a "guest ##".

I can tell you that upon his departure from expat.com that he was a member in good standing, holding VIP status.

Speaking on a purely personal level I can say that his knowledge and his input are sorely missed.

Hello everyone,

Please note that I am closing this thread.

Guestposter**** is an alternative username we use only for members who have requested their account to be deleted from the website.

I am sorry, I don't know Colin personally but if the member has requested his account to be deleted, we need to respect that.

Ofcourse, when members contact us, we try to dissuade them and ask for feedback.

All the best

Bhavna
