Relocating to Bangkok: How Long Did It Take?

Blasianrule

Hi Everyone,

I am retiring from federal government service in March of this year and plan to move to Bangkok.  My retirement salary will exceed the minimum required, so there will be no problems there.  I'm single and plan to use the O/A retirement visa.   Like many pre-expats, I've been watching a ton of videos on YouTube......lol.

I'd like to know how many of you made one or more trips to Bangkok before actually moving there.  Also, how long did it take from thinking about relocating to Thailand before you actually got on the plane?  I've heard it can take up to a year to get all your affairs in order stateside.

Thanks!

Paul

Never done that

On my only trip to Thailand before moving here.

I knew i want to move here if i was able to, inside a few hours after coming to my hotel.

It was the weather here that was so good to my body.

In the same few hours i all so knew i was not going to live in Pattaya.

My big mistake come to Thailand was paying for the first 10 days.

After Pattaya, I was invite to come and spend some time near a new foreigner friend living in Nonthaburi.

In a area with very few foreigner, And no Tourist zone.

And i spend around 60 days there total, And that where i start living when i move here.

IF i was to move here today, I come on a NoN O single entry (90 days), Into a 1 year Extension.

Bangkok have very bad air pollutes, I all ways get sick inside 20-30 minute after we go there, Wife take a bit longer to feel it.

And when 4 of my family was here last year, The 5 first day in Bangkok, They all was sick.

1-2 days after coming to my Area near the sea, They where all fine again.

Not saying everyone get sick there, But maybe try it out before making up you mind about it ?

Hope you going to have a great time here.

I would book a two month long holiday. That way you'll get a real idea of what the country is like.

I found the food wasn't to my taste, and the 'holiday' areas positively were annoying .

Bangkok is an interesting city but the true beauty is in the far south.
