Pattaya, very bad also

For the last few months we should have gotten more rain in Pattaya and even in Bangkok.  So mother nature has started to balance it out now.   Overall not that abnormal.  This happens every few years.  But, they have been working on trying to work on it. Bangkok had a lot more water canals but developers filled them in causing part of the problem.  But a few years ago like the last major water problem Bangkok and the surrounding areas started to look and try to fix the problem that they partly caused.  In Pattaya  and Jomtien they have been beefing up the smaller storm drainage system.  It's been just a few years and some of the projects are not scheduled to end fir a couple of years more.

When I worked in Thailand in the early 80’s they said then that in 20-30 years Bangkok would be underwater, with all of the development thats gone on since then they might have got their figures wrong but it’s only a matter of time before it is. Perhaps they’d better start reopening the klongs they concreted over! I think if I lived in Bangkok I’d be investing in a boat because that’ll be the only way to get around in the future.

Thank you for your replies!  Curious about Bangkok predicted future...  Is Bangkok sinking, or is it just the overdevelopment that is not allowing for natural absorption and flow off?

Is it safe to assume that what is happening in Pattaya would also happen across the (gulf?) in Hua Hin?  Or could the narrower land on the west side allow for better run-off of rains?

Bangkok had a lot more water canals and they would be the storm drain system that could empty in to the sea. They filled in the canals to build on top of where they were but did not put in storm drains for feuding.  They have not replaced them as yet. But 2 times in around 15 years at this level they may.

Pattaya and Jomtien was less developed back then and it's  problem is like others districts that get dumped on. But in the last few years they have been making and replacing the system.

After the big one about 15 years ago Bangkok knew about the problem they said they will work on it. Maybe they forgot to put the pumps in or on. 

I've been watching the news about this - Looks a little rough.
