Malaysian Visas - Defacto Living

rjmcguire

Hi Expat Community,

I am looking for some assistance / help or recommendations. I have just been offered a role in KL with large FMCG which I am likely to accept however I have just hit a speed bump regarding visa status etc..

As part of the move my girlfriend would eventually relocated from UK to KL. We have been dating for ~4 years and are both Australian citizens. We have also lived together for about 3 years and we both are currently living in the UK. We are however UNMARRIED!

What are the options that she has to be able to move to KL. At this stage she will not have a job but may find one in the next ~3 months before relocating. Assuming she cannot secure work before leaving for KL, what are the other options besides the normal 90 day Australian tourist visa? As I believe she cannot get a spousal visa.

Please help ;)

Thanks

Rich

Common Law partnerships are recognised (reluctantly) in Malaysia from some countries. You will need to get paperwork from the Australian Embassy in KL. The type of Pass is mentioned on page 25  of this guide.

Gravitas - thanks so much for your very quick reply!

From a high level scan, it looks like it may be achievable. I assume that if my girlfriend then found employment she would have to move onto a employment pass?

So all the paperwork needs to be collected in KL?

Has anyone else been in a similar situation

Thanks

Rich
