Foreigner with international driving license

bomberman73

My wife had just gotten her international driving license from Thailand. She is a Thai nationality by the way. Question, does she still need to apply for local driving license or does she need to convert it to a local driving license? Can she drive using her international driving license? someone please advise. thanks

Its ok if just a tourist but if residing need to check the rules for Thai nationals. Some nationalities can exchange. The JPJ website has details

The rules have changed. I live here and drive on an international driving license.. so you should be good. :)

Thailand is in the list of countries which have automatic conversion to a Malaysian License.

If ever stopped at road checks its simpler to have a local license (don't have to give up own national DL - it's just retained.

The issue some people run into with IDLs is when the time comes to renew them.
