We only have two seasons here, rain and sunshine so you may carry small umbrella in your bag. Humidity is high so carry lotsa cotton wear. English is widely spoken and understood but learn local bahasa malaysia too. Always carry cash when buying at small stores because we are traditional like that.
We are peaceful people and as long as you are respectful, you're going to feel at home. Good luck.

I am focusing to shift permanently to this country and before that thought to let's make few friends via this portal.

I’d love to meet for coffee sometime and we could swap stories.
I am living in Melaka also teaching English and have been here for nearly two years. I know what you mean about having someone to chat to and I love coffee. Do you go to KL at all?
Angela
I'm originally from Ipoh but live in the US! I'm back for a couple of weeks on holiday though so if you're up for it, we can swap stories anytime.
Cheers,
Meg
senyoka wrote:Hello! And thanks for starting this thread. I’m an American living in Ipoh and working as an English teacher. Spent about 1 year in and out of KL and last December landed a 2 year contract. I love Ipoh for many reasons but am craving conversation with native English speakers. Most people here speak the language but on a basic level so I m constantly modulating my speech (vocabulary and speed). It’s awesome that everyone here speaks several languages, but I just wanna gab with someone who’s fluent once in awhile and who also ‘gets’ Western culture. If this makes sense to you, I’d love to meet for coffee sometime and we could swap stories.

I’m Steven.
Me and my wife Sarah would really like to move to Malaysia. Prefferably KL. We’re currently on a trip throughout SE Asia and are in KL right now for a few more days. We’re trying to figure out the best way to move here. I’m a designer with about 8year of experience and my wife is a social worker with a Bachelors degree. If anyone has any tips or advice that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Myself Brajesh, a software professional in web development from India. For over 3 weeks in KL with my new job. Traveled few places in KL and I am loving this place. People says its too hot, but I love the weather here, specially the greenery. I love to travel, explore new places and love to meet people from across the glob. Nice to see you all here from various countries and will like to be in contact

I am from Singapore but have been living here for more than 10 years. I am a retired Performance Coach but still take time to do some CSR work. It would be nice to meet some of you later in the next Meeting but I will be leaving for Belgium for 2 months in 2 weeks time and will also spend 12 days in Croatia as part of my Travelling "to new places".
Cheers!
Victor
Ipoh is basically a small town and a lot of people have "migrated" to the larger more urban Kuala Lumpur, but Ipoh still has maintained its charm. If you need to find someone or people who are fluent and speak grammatically correct English, try heading to Ipoh Club, situated along Club Road located near the Railway Station. That's basically started off as an "expatriate club" but has taken to locals now.
Not sure if they had changed the name to Royal Ipoh Club but you cannot miss it if you drive along Club Road from the Railway Station towards St Michael Institution, it is on your right hand side just before SMI (St Michael Inst).

Looks like a wonderful place - I'm hoping to work hard, make some friends and have some outdoor adventures.
My name is Jamie and I'm from the Philippines. I am currently residing in Johor with my Malaysian husband. I would love to meet and have friends here in Johor. I only know my husband and my husband's family here in Malaysia. Feel free to message me if you want to get to know me more.I love nature.. What makes Malaysia, truly special is our country’s natural beauty. For 130 million years, to 248 million years, the prehistoric and the oldest tropical rainforests in the world and mangrove forest. Last week I just came back from Pahang National Park (Northern Malaysia). I found a huge, tall and handsome "Meranti" tree! And also another gorgeous and beautiful animals! What an amazing experience! I always welcome and so proud to bring people who like to explore the nature. I know a lot of you love nature too.. Let's talk about it! let's talk about it!

Looking for any posts for help in the process and accommodation.
Looking forward to meet new people and make new friends.
See you all soon !!!
