Marriage/TRP in Kazakhstan

Natalie27

Hello!

Feeling really confused and this site seems to have a lot of helpful info, so figured I’d post here!

I’m an American female planning to marry my Kazakhstani boyfriend in Kazakhstan soon. The plan originally was for me to travel to Kazakhstan, provide all of the needed paperwork for marriage, and then for us to get married there. Once the marriage was registered, I planned to apply for a temporary residence permit. However, after researching more in depth, it seems like I may only qualify for the TRP after a year of marriage (maybe even longer). Is this true? If so, are exceptions sometimes made? Could I go about getting a TRP any other way?

Hello Nathalie,

Welcome to Expat.com😀

Have you tried contacting the relevant immigration authorities in Kazakhstan to get the official information you need?

This is usually the best way to ensure you have accurate and up-to-date details about the requirements for a temporary residence permit.

All the best,

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl!

Thanks so much for your response!

Yes, I’ve been trying to do some research on my end, and my boyfriend has been actively trying to get answers from authorities in his city. So far, he hasn’t been given a clear answer (mostly just “I don’t know, we’ll have to see”), and I’ve read a lot of conflicting info online about the requirements. We’ll keep trying, but nothing is really clear yet.
