Yes, I’ve been trying to do some research on my end, and my boyfriend has been actively trying to get answers from authorities in his city. So far, he hasn’t been given a clear answer (mostly just “I don’t know, we’ll have to see”), and I’ve read a lot of conflicting info online about the requirements. We’ll keep trying, but nothing is really clear yet.

I recently got married here;

There's no need to wait a year to apply for a residence permit; you'll first need to apply for a non-resident IIN (approximately 6000 KZT); and then apply for a long-term family reunification visa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Astana or Almaty.
