Japan, a welcoming destination to expats?

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Settling in Japan, like every new environment, can feel like stepping into the unknown and brings many questions: how will it go, how to integrate successfully, etc.
To help smooth this transition, we invite you to share your experience since you landed in Japan, whether recently or a long ago:

What was your first impression when you arrived?

Did you face any challenges while integrating? Any advice on how to overcome them?

Are there any support programs, groups or events to help newcomers settle in?

Do you find it easy to make friends or connections with locals and fellow expats?

What makes Japan a welcoming destination for expats?

Share your insights and experience.

Thank you for your contribution.

Hi Cheryl.

I will let you know if and when I move here.

I had the opportunity to move here after I got my Post Grad, Diploma in Modern Chinese in London and completed my years Scholarship at the Mandarin Training Center in Taipei. I actually filled out the forms to go to Japan to study Japanese and to apply for a scholarship, but instead got married to this french bit I met at the college in Taiwan. That dashed my plans, but I do still hope to move there one day.
