I cannot speak for Jakarta /surrounding area but myself and family tend to use singapore or Malaysia for health issues if we have concerns, i find routine medical visits locally in indonesia ok at best but this just my opinion
1. My local area is ok at best, many expats and indonesians if they can both afford tend to visit Malaysia or singapore, malaysia as first choice with most of us
Khoo teck puat or kk for our kids in singapore always, not only vastly cheaper but superior service
2. We found one baby specialst who is very good here but the hospital is very poor, we use him for general check ups if we cant visit sg (like now)

4. The charges are anyones guess but set up similar to sg, consultation fees, local tax etc
Charges vary in a huge way in my location as a few exampled MMR here was 5Xs more than singapore
I did a uk offshore medical 2 years ago locally, friends went same week, same doctor same medical centre, all charged differently between 3million to 4.3million same age etc

I am not familiar with any of the hospitals in Jakarta but I am very familiar with many of them in Bandung which is about 3 hours away from Jakarta. Here the doctors are generally pretty good but you still need to be careful. For anything serious I would definitely fly to Kuala Lumpur (cheaper than Singapore I would imagine) to have any operations or serious examinations. But for general things I always do with local hospitals. For drugs, antibiotics and general medicines, my own experience is that they are better in Malaysia and undoubtedly in Singapore too. I find that doctors here prescribe too many local generic medicines that are not always as effective as those in Malaysia which are very often imported form major pharmaceutical manufacturers.

One difference that I have noticed is that medical insurance in Indonesia is much more expensive than we used to pay in Malaysia. I mean very much more expensive.

The charges vary with different hospitals. For example, in some I might be charged Rp400 - 450k for a specialists consultancy fees. However, in the local lung clinic they only charge Rp60k.

Anything relating to prostate examination to cancer or anything requiring an operation then I would definitely do in Malaysia. For coughs, skin problems, dental issues, and other less serious matters I am happy to see a doctor here.

Quality of Jakarta private hospitals varies. I went to Medistra before and they are not too bad.

Expect to pay more for expats. Prices also varies Eg. PCR test at Siloam hospital cost 6m Idr and 2.5m at Medistra. 🙁

Some hospitals will not admit you without a kitas.

There are also some apps like Medi call or Halodoc where you can have consultations with a doctor online. Also private visits from a doctor to you home. Very useful.

Great example on how much you can be robbed for, expats under 60 PCR is 400k, aged 60 and over is free (if positive) treatment for positive cases on all expats regardless of age is free mostly free but local taxes admin etc is not included.

That's good to know, I am in the 60+ age group. I assume that they would put you in at least a six person ward or larger unless we paid for a private room out of our own pocket.
