Bali - Visa etc.... Please help!

Caution, and good preparation and planning will go a long way.

You will need a working residency permit (KITAS) for each of you. However, this requires an Indonesian national as a sponsor - and for a full KITAS, the sponsor is generally a person who is offering you a job here. In other words, getting a job usually comes first and that is not as easy as it seems.

It's such a complex issue, and there are so many ways of tackling it,  that what I did was to devote one of my frequent trips here before settling here for good to check it all out thoroughly with a good immigration agent. Yep, it costs more for their services than doing it yourself, but the saving in time, 'administration fees' (!) and general bureaucratic delays is more than worth it.

I can't suggest an agent as I don't live in that area but I can tell you the legal price or a KITAS is Rp700,000 with 5,000 for the folder.
The agent will do the running about for you and that will save a pile of messing around and travelling.
Enter on a 30 day tourist visa and take it from there.
Note you will have to leave the country to get the KITAS.

One thing that wasn't mentioned with regard to a KITAS is that, in addition to the actual visa cost a USD$1200 fee is applicable each year.

Bali Mode close to Jl. Melasti in Legian Kuta is also a good agent

Oh By the way. If you are starting a business here you will need to set up a legal P.T. Company or similar. The added benefit of doing this is that you will be able to automatically apply for KITAS visas and permits as directors.

My advise it is much better if you came with tourist visa first which you can extend fourth times and do checking with the agent (try borborigmus advised).

It is important to check with the agent can you foreigner have property in Indonesia?  As far as I concerned you CAN'T, you need to have KITAS first.  The same happened if you want to set-up company.  Not to mention the sum of amount that have to deposit in bank.  Therefore, many foreigner use local people as their partner.  Basically I can help you as I have contact a reputable agent that involved in permit, visa, open business for foreigner, etc.  However, I am living in Jakarta not Bali.  So just do your checking directly with the agent in Bali.
