Samsung ZFold 8 - Failed delivery

For the first time in a few years, I decided to change a phone before it died - That being because the Z Fold 8 looks great. I pre-ordered a phone with a delivery date of the 21st of this month.

Still nothing yesterday so I ordered from the Samsung Indonesia site and their shopee.co.id- Both had phones for immediate purchase, as did 2 other non-Samsung  shops I asked today.

In other words, Samsung are failing to deliver to paid up customers in favour of new sales.

They have my cash, so hang customer service in favour of extra sales.

If readers have ordered one but delivery has failed, go to Shopee.co.id and Samsung.ID, order, screenshot,  then confront the shop.

I complained yesterday with screenshots and I can pick it up today.

The phone is a silly price but its abilities are stunning- I can live with the price, but shit customer service is bad news.

I think this is the last of a long line of Samsung phones since I bought my first Note 1 back in 2011.

I've lost all confidence in them and, more importantly,  their commitment to long term, flagship phone customers.

Is this a sad end to a long relationship?

Well, gosh!

A few messages and the Samsung shop has suddenly got a phone in stock.

The 'no stock' is now a proven lie as the message they quoted shows the phone was transferred from another shop.

They have has them for at least a few days, but customers who paid in advance come second to extra sales.

I'm very disappointed in Samsung Indonesia

Afer much messing around, I am now the partially happy owner of a Samsung Z Fold 8.

The phone is great, but I'm unsure I can say the same about Samsung.

I used to splash out on good Samsung phones. Many years ago in Malaysia I was on the wait list for the Note 4 and the S5 and happy when I got those. Samsung were great back then. Since then I've been using cheaper Samsung phones as have my wife and kids. Thinking about getting an iPhone next.

Right now I'm on the wait list for an DJI Osmo Pocket 4P camera, it's sold out in most places. Haven't paid a deposit on it so not really worried. Will give my GoPro 10 to my kids.

I use DeX mode a lot so Samsung S series phones are very useful.  However,  I still use PowerPoint presentations with video, but that app doesn't work on slab phones, only tablets as long as they aren't using DeX.

The Z fold 8 works with ppt vids.

My main use is spreadsheets and Google Slides presentations on the go, and this thing is stunning for that. I have an ultra-thin Bluetooth keyboard that makes the tricky bits easy, but slips into my 'Felix the cat' bag with ease.

For more intense work, I have a portable 10 inch touchscreen monitor that gives me a very sweet, ultra portable, twin screen system that makes ipad users question their life choices.

When I retire and have more limited needs, far more simple devices will be in order.

For background,  I hate using Windows.

After a particularly long Windows 10 update, I threw my brand new laptop across the room and bought a Samsung Tab S5e. I had to get a Windows machine when I started a new job, but that sits in a drawer unless I need to use Audacity.

My primary machine is a Samsung Tab S8 that makes life easy.  It has fast, problem free updates, and smooth operation that Windows users can only dream of.
