Potential expat

Hey everyone! I’m a 33-year-old American currently considering relocating to Georgia, most likely Kutaisi, for roughly a year. I’m not looking for a luxury expat lifestyle—I’m looking for a simple, affordable, functional home base where I can live below my means, rebuild financially, develop remote/portable income, and focus on personal development. I plan to cook mostly at home, train at home/outdoors, live without a car if practical, and arrive with savings while I work toward sustainable income.

I’d really like to connect with Americans or other foreigners who have actually made a similar move, especially anyone living in Kutaisi or who started over abroad without already having a high-paying remote career. I’m interested in the realities of rent, neighborhoods, groceries, transportation, internet, banking, finding work, language barriers, making friends, unexpected expenses, and anything you wish you’d known before moving.

I’m also very interested in hearing from people who tried living in Georgia and ultimately decided to leave—the negatives are just as useful to me as the positives.

I’m still in the research/planning stage, so I’m here to learn rather than romanticize the move. Any firsthand experiences, warnings, recommendations, or people willing to chat would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
