Public transportation in Cape Town

Unfortunately way to many people in Cape Town driver their cars, compared to European standards. In Cape Town it is only really poor/underprivileged people that uses public transport, and then all the expats of course. :-) Ask any white/ upper middle class/ upper-class South African if they use public transport and they are going to get a hart attack and give you a long lecture of how dangerous it is to use public transport: "taxi drivers are drunk and got their drivers licenses in vending machines, trains are smelly, mouldy and have no doors and windows, etc". It is actually quite entertaining to listen to, considering they have NEVER been used public transport..

Public transport is  very cheap compared to Europe, but many S.A. workers pay about 25% of their wages on transport every month.

Myself I cycle on my bicycle, I live central in CT and can cycle to anywhere I need to go in less than 15 minutes. If I need to go out of town I use mostly taxies, because they are always only one minute away.

my daughter is reaqlly struggling
she just started working a little job and work until late at night and have no vehicle and can not get one until she has an id book  What can she do is there ride share and how do i look for transport for her she workd close to the tigerberg mall.

These are very normal problem in CT. There are ride shares, look for them on gumtree also for flats to rent. However I do not see why she should not be able to buy a car bafore she gets an ID book??? Ifshe has a (internetional) drivers licence there  is no reason for her not to drive.

The "excite taxi service" has started offering a monthly service where you pay a certain fee per month and then you can use the taxis when you need to. You can even share the cab with someone nearby to cut down on costs. Look for more info on their website. My cousin uses it to get around; even though she has a car its very hard to find parking in Cape Town, and its not as though you have to travel very far to get to where you need to go.
