Because of some sort of obsession with South Korea (and possibly Japan) among some of the teens in the country. I guess they are watching movies/films from that region of the world, and now interested in their culture, and want to travel there to visit or live - so learning the language is helpful.

well Ive been obsessed with the korean language for almost 2years nows! and I wouldn't even call it obsession cuz the reason why I learned korean is because speaking with koreans in english was really hard since you can rarely find a fluent english speaker in korea! nd yeah learning a new language is always helpful !
