Will I need to buy a return ticket to enter MU?

Hey guys,

I've been trying to figure this out but I literally can't find anything about it. I've been checking Mauritius now, the Ministry of Tourism, and the EDB office but everyone is providing different answers.

To keep a long story short, I'm flying in from Dubai to MU tomorrow, and I have only booked a one-way ticket, as we plan on applying for the Premium visa (I know I need this for the visa) and staying for a year. Seeing how expensive the flight and quarantine were, we were thinking there is no need of buying the return ticket just yet as I can apply for the visa later onwell.

But from reading mixed answers on old posts on trip advisor, I could not find the correct answer.

Does anyone know if this is required to actually be able to enter, would there be a hassle if I don't have a return ticket with me on arrival?

My first post here so if I didn't follow any guidelines please let me know! :)

Thanks!

Hello Shortxp,

Welcome to the the Mauritius forum  :)

You are required to show a return flight booking.
Is needed :
Copy of air ticket (including reservation for return ticket)

Only Mauritians and foreigners already having the status of residents do not require to show any return ticket (If they have their resident card).

Regards
Anou
Yes you need a return ticket, if you coming over on a travel visa, only if you have applied for permits as a foreigner and it's been approved can you do a one way. If I'm not mistaken if you come on travel visa and apply for permit to stay as OP or Premium visa you have to exit Mauritius and enter again so best is to first apply.
P.S For the premium visa it is not required to exit and re enter Mauritius, however you have to show return flight reservation
You’ll have to book a return ticket online for  11 months in the future - make sure to pay the extra amount to get tickets that allow changeable dates
Thank you all for the replies! Really appreciated. So from what it seems them, I'll have to book a return ticket as well. However, does anyone perhaps know if it necessary has to be to the same country as I actually came from? I managed to find some good tickets in September 2022 from Mauritius -> Reunion. Unfortunately, I cannot book a return to Dubai as my visa is expiring here as well.

Thank you all looking forward to seeing you all soon!  :par:
Just a reservation for a flight is sufficient. We booked through KLM, reserved the return flight for €15,- per ticket and after entering Mauritius we cancelled the reservation
Hi

We are entering Mauritius with a Occupational permit as Professional. Do we need a return flight? We only booked a 1way flight as well. But cant see why we should book return flight if we are not planning to go back. We signed long term lease on house and kids will start school as well.
How to find apartment on rent for one month?
You will need a reservation for a return flight. The immigration wants that, because the final approval has not yet been given. You will get the approval while you are in Mauritius, but if your medical test or original documents somehow are not accepted, than you might not get the approval. That is the insurance that immigration needs, that you do have a return flight, otherwise they might not accept you at all…
A reservation for a return flight will be sufficient. You only pay a reservation fee for the ticket, not the complete booking of a ticket, so maybe you pay around $20,- to have an option on a flight.
That way you enter Mauritius without problems and you could cancel your flight reservation.
Would a flight Itinerary be fine? Or do you have to book and pay for actual flight. Seems like such a waste, just to cancel and not get refunded. End up sitting with a voucher from airline that you might not even use.
Nope.
Nope meaning I dont have to buy a return flight? Spoke to the ECB, seems like I have to buy return flight.
Hello Neilvz,

A reservation is enough, exactly as explained by

Hi,

We arrived in June 2021 without having return or onward tickets.

With EDB Pre-Approval and copies of all your relevant documentation,  return tickets were not required and we entered without any problem.
Thank you, I appreciate the help! :)

If you have an Occupation Permit, you don't need a return ticket. Make sure you have ALL the documents that proves your OP at the airport.
