Items you wish you'd brought...

I wish I had brought EVERYTHING lol. It is sometimes difficult to find certain brands & quality things here. Anything imported here is also more expensive & sometimes about double the price. Eg, my Iphone in Australia is about half the price it is in Mauritius. My uncle ended up sending 1 for me via a friend who came to Mauritius. Even if you can get them online, postage or delivery can be really expensive. Also, some general items I have bought here are what we call 'seconds' in Australia - ie, they have some kind of fault. Quality electrical appliances are hard to find & also more expensive - so I suggest you bring all your gadgets. I am so glad I brought all my fancy kitchen appliances, natural cookware & other appliances with me, eg, Ice cream maker, food processors, fridge/freezer. If you are bringing things in a container you usually pay for the whole container anyway - so fill it up. What I did as I was packing was to consider 'Can I live without this EXACT item?' Also, you can find unfurnished homes to rent here - I rented my unit unfurnished.   

All imported appliances are more expensive here.. bring anything robust which won't need spare parts (you will never find them here)

I agree with Julien, when you bring something "unique" from outside, it will not be under warranty and difficult to repair...

My advice: take only specific items that you know you will not find here and you really love.

If I knew, for example, I would not have brought my Christmas tree, there is plenty here to buy...!

For the kids, we frequently bring toys (playmobil,lego..) from outside via family, its too expensive here...
