The locals (or Natives as some expat referred to them as) are not a hostile bunch who would tie you up and roast you with an apple in your mouth.

You just need to reach out to others if you want to receive something in return. Maybe those expats that have Mauritian partners could help you on the topic.

Otherwise it works the same here as most places; if you find someone interesting, go up to her/him and talk to that person.

most places but not all places. i lived in libya for 20 years. in libya, no matter how cute a libyan girl is, you don't approach her.
