I heard that the mountain is a bit of a struggle but do-able without ropes and climbing equipment, apart from the last stretch which is a bit of a scramble. Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire sounds like a good starting point, for sure...It's the tallest yet one of the easiest mountains here. I'm no way a professional hiker/mountain climber, I just did it for fun with friends in the UK, so my access to equipment is minimal. If anything, I'm probably worse now than I was then (I've been eating too much gateaux piment and briani
